Dear Wine Lovers:
There is something about paying my Federal and State Income Taxes that turns me into a curmudgeon. Come celebrate the end of the tax season with us as we taste wines from Chile and Argentina. Both countries have been producing wines for over two hundred years. Argentina is now the 5th largest producer of wines. It is only with in the last 10 years that these wines have come into their own. They represent extraordinary values – which is particularly comforting as the Federal Government has taken my last farthing.
Peggy and Erik Molander will host the event at their home, 215 Burroughs Road, Boxborough MA. We will begin the festivities at 7:30 PM and encourage you to bring a wine friendly appetizer to share. The tasting will include a broader sampling of white and red wines with both the traditional noble grapes (Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir) and some that are just now being bottled as a varietal (Malbec and Carmenere). The fee will be $20 per person and as always, there will be no charge for the non-drinking designated driver. We encourage everyone to enjoy the evening by drinking responsibly.
Please RSVP to Erik Molander at epmolander@gmail.com or call 978-263-0929 by Thursday April 10th .
The Sunday Boston Globe had an interesting article on the Chilean Wine Industry and eco-tourism in Patagonia. Here is the link to the article and related photos of the area. Vine to Vat in Chile
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday April 12th
Cheers,
Erik Molander

The end of the year BBQ is scheduled for Saturday, June 14th at 7:30pm at the home of Alison & Luc Clement. This year will be a “tradition American BBQ” and the theme will be “Flag Day”. Mark your calendar and book the babysitter now as you won’t want to miss this event! Details to follow in the May newsletter as well as via e-vite.
Calling all Ladies!!! Looking for a few good laughs for the night then why not join us for dinner and bowling on Thursday, April 17th at 6:30pm. We will be meeting at Daniella’s at 6:30pm for dinner and then heading over to the Acton Bowladrome around 7:30pm for bowling. Sounds like a few good laughs to me. Please RSVP by Tuesday, April 15th to Brenda at 978-298-5007 or www.pgtwo@comcast.net. Looking forward to seeing you then!
Greetings for Spring-- Check out these next selections, grab a book and find a patch of sunshine! We invite you to join the conversation-- remember, you are welcome any time.
On Wednesday April 30th at 7:30, you’ll want to join us as we talk about a most remarkable novel: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon. Entirely written in “point-of-view” style, this award-winning tale is “told” by a 15-year-old autistic savant. A rare glimpse into a brilliant and challenged young mind.
“When his neighbor's poodle is killed and Christopher is falsely accused of the crime, he decides that he will take a page from Sherlock Holmes … and track down the killer. As the mystery leads him…into an odyssey to find his place in the world, he must fall back on deductive logic to navigate the emotional complexities of a social world that remains a closed book to him.”
- Wikipedia
“Though Christopher insists, "This will not be a funny book. I cannot tell jokes because I do not understand them," the novel brims with touching, ironic humor. The result is an eye-opening work in a unique and compelling literary voice.” - Publisher’s Weekly
In May (meeting Thursday, May 29, at 7:30) our reading list returns to Asia, this time to meet Empress Michiko of Japan. The Commoner: a Novel by John Burnham Schwartz tells the extraordinary story of the woman who … “marries the Crown Prince of Japan... She is the first non-aristocratic woman to enter the longest-running, almost hermetically sealed, and mysterious monarchy in the world. Met with cruelty and suspicion … [she] is controlled at every turn...However, determined not to be crushed by the imperial bureaucrats, she perseveres.” - from the Publisher
“Out of this heart-wrenching history, Schwartz has woven a delicate, elegiac tale, intensely moving and utterly convincing”. - New York Times Book Review
Just turn the page, a whole world awaits…
